Computer based training (CBT) is sometimes referred to as electronic learning (eLearning) and takes place when any course is distributed via a computer. Sometimes methods of distribution include web-based training where employees can access the training seminar from any computer that has access to the internet. This method is beginning to grow in popularity amongst many companies searching for less expensive ways to train employees across multiple locations at one time because it highly automates efforts and has the ability to generate automatic reports.

CBT software is a great way for organizations to save ample amounts of time and money for several reasons. First, time will be saved because personnel will not have to travel around to multiple locations training employees. The training will take place over the internet and will allow for employees across the world to be instructed at one time reducing the headache of continuously trying to schedule training for employees. Secondly, money will be saved because travel expenses will be reduced.

Training which is not lead by an instructor can take place at the work place and also at home, giving the employee more flexibility as to when they can complete the required courses. CBT can also track employees throughout their training watching their scores, progress and tasks still remaining to be completed. In addition, tests and quizzes can be distributed to the employees and scores can be immediately available for review. These scores can also be sent to upper management via email, text message or page. This allows personnel to continuously track their employee’s progress throughout the training sessions.

It is a wise idea to look at these systems not only for training but also for training of safety, ISO and OSHA.
